Marysville Union Pacific Depot Preservation Society

Specific Need

The two stated founding purposes of our organization are to preserve the Marysville Historic Union Pacific Depot and to provide education about the history and impact of the Railroad in the Marysville region. This expense account was created specifically to fund our maintenance, restoration and upgrade projects and to help us develop and build content for our educational programs. This is a separate fund from our dedicated fund to reconstruct a mechanical, electrical and HVAC system to make the Depot inhabitable 12 months a year (see M.U.P. Depot Preservation Society Heat & A/C System Fund).
Funds from our Expense Account were used last year to continue to build out and increase the functionality of our Catering Kitchen to support events at the Depot, and to install all new weather-tight exterior doors. We also use these funds to purchase materials, tools and consumables necessary to keep our volunteers working on maintenance and restoration projects along with the preparation for our "experiential events" at the depot. This year the funding will support the installation of new remote controlled window blinds, will be used to continue building the presentation of our museum and archive pieces and to restore a couple more rooms while maintaining the balance of this great and historic 96-year-old building. With your help and some good fortune, we would also like to begin the process of upgrading our technology at the Depot so that our educational presentations can be more engaging and memorable.

Mission

It is the vision of the Marysville Union Pacific Depot Preservation Society to make the Historic Depot a self-sustaining, primary attraction in and around Marysville, offering event space, educational programs, and social events, in a historically significant architectural setting, benefiting our local / regional communities with added economic benefit, community engagement and improvement in their quality of life.

Profile

You know we have been a growing source of excitement in the community with our events, our involvement in, and the completion of successful projects at the Depot. Our Board of Directors is functioning very well while always working on continuous improvement. The talent that we have on the Board allows us to be very analytical, both financially and in the prioritization of projects. These elements coupled with our operating organization, which is strictly voluntary, provide the most efficient and highest impact results for your donation. Additionally, the reinvented and aggressive area promotion by One Marysville is creating many beneficial potentials for the community and our Historic Union Pacific Depot needs to be both a major attraction and a catering facility for the variety of the events being created.
