Marshall County Historical Society

Specific Need

The Marshall County Historical Society maintains and operates the 1891 Historic Courthouse as county museum, as well as providing a research library. For many years during the Christmas season, the Historic Courthouse was adorned with hundreds of bright white lights. Sadly, in 2024, the lights were not turned on due to damage caused by high winds which resulted in many broken bulbs.  Also, many strings no longer worked due to aging of the wiring. The focus of our Marshall County Historical Society Fund in 2026 is to fund the installation of the LED lights. A lift will also need to be rented to install the lights.  Please help light up "The Grand Lady of Broadway" for Christmas 2026.

Mission

To preserve the stories of Marshall County through historical documents, exhibits and programs for the enjoyment and education of future generations.

Profile

The purpose of the Historical Society is to collect, preserve and to display historical records and objects from Marshall County, to preserve the Historic Courthouse, to maintain and make available Marshall County genealogical records, and to encourage interest in local history. The Museum and the Historical Society are both located in the Historic Courthouse. The challenge of maintaining a building over 134 years old is ongoing.  Donations are gratefully accepted!
