Black Squirrel Bark Park

Specific Need

We have great news! Plans for the Black Squirrel Bark Park in Marysville have taken two giant steps forward!

The Black Squirrel Bark Park is a dog park that is being planned for Marysville. A dog park is a fenced-in area where dogs are able to run, play and interact with other dogs, and explore without having to be on a leash. Dog parks are also a place for the dogs humans to meet new people and socialize.

Many towns have dog parks but ours will be truly unique. The entrance will be on Jackson at 8th Street. To reach the dog park you will pass through a beautiful wooded area and cross over a stream via a bridge built and generously donated by the Landoll Corporation (that’s big news #1!). When you reach the other side you will see wide open spaces and a view of the Hwy 77 overpass in the distance. The location allows easy access for residents with it’s proximity to the city park. Travelers on Hwy 77 and those camping  at the city park won’t need to travel out of their way to exercise their dogs.

Dog parks have become increasingly popular across the country as well as in northeast Kansas. Belleville, Concordia and Holton are just a few communities in our area that already have dog parks. Realtors report that dog parks are on the list of amenities that people are looking for when they choose a place to live.

This Marysville City Council decided that they will match the amount that is donated to the Black Squirrel Bark Park at Pony Up Marysville Match Day up to $5,000 (that’s big news #2!).

Thank you for considering a donation to the Black Squirrel Bark Park.
