RSVP of Northeast Kansas

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

RSVP of Northeast Kansas, Inc. (RSVP) is a volunteer program for adults 55 years of age and older.  The average age for volunteers enrolled with RSVP is 75 years old.  Because of the average age, many of the volunteers are staying close to home during COVID-19 and feeling extremely isolated from their friends and family.

With specific funding for this project, a staff member or trained volunteer will video-tape RSVP volunteers, reading age-appropriate books for pre-school through elementary school aged children.  These videos will be shared via FaceBook, YouTube and when created, RSVP’s web page.  Viewers will not be limited to Marshall County residents and potentially can be viewed by the volunteers’ grandchildren who may not live nearby.

To provide our citizens, ages 55 and older, a variety of opportunities to participate more fully in the life of their community through significant volunteer service.

RSVP’s primary focus area is in Healthy Futures.  Volunteers provide home delivered hot and frozen meals and wellness checks to handicapped, homebound and/or elderly individuals through Marshall County Meals on Wheels programs and RSVP’s Freezer Meal program.  Volunteers also educate clients on choosing Medicare Part D Prescription Insurance or Affordable Care Act Insurance.

Under other focus areas, RSVP volunteers are also involved in:

  • working in local food pantries;
  • listening to children read in local elementary schools;
  • providing tax preparation and filing assistance to the elderly and those with low- to moderate-incomes through the IRS’ VITA program; and
  • Area Veterans who are also RSVP volunteers are part of the Honor Guard, honoring our fallen soldiers.

Other volunteers involved with RSVP:

  • assist nonprofit agencies with fundraising efforts;
  • perform all duties involved in the local Bloodmobile, with the exception of drawing and handling blood donations; and
  • provide direct service or support services at 30 Marshall County organizations
    • These duties may include serving meals at nutrition sites; providing entertainment or companionship at nursing facilities; providing access to museums, art centers and State Historic Sites; and drop-off recycling.
