Goal: $20,000.00
Specific Need
We continue to raise funds for heating and air conditioning at the Historic Depot. However, this year we have added a seperate fund donation site for this effort. Thank you for donating to both funds.
The funds from the 2022 Pony Up effort allowed us to do the following....
* Build the south wall of the Trainmen's Room - completed 1st quarter 2023
* Install period lights in the Archives and Trainmen Room - completed in 2021
* Obtain a comprehensive engineer study for the HVAC System, plumbing and electrical for the Depot
(Completed the feasibility study in 2021 and in the process of completeing the rest of the study in 2023 with the help of the seperate donation fund for the Heating and A/C System)
* Purchase and installed 14 California Douglas Fir interior custom doors (Completed in 2021)
* Remove pavement from the North Lawn and planted with Buffalo Grass (Completed in 2022)
* Landscape the South Lawn and around the Depot (Ongoing but completed the South Lawn in 2021)
* Refinish the wainscott in the Grand Lobby and Archives Room (Ongoing - most complete but still missing small sections in the Grand Lobby)
* Completed the installation of the permanent electrical service needed for all anticipated depot needs (completerd 2022)
Goals for the 2023 Funds collected during Pony Up......
2023 will began with removing/replacing failed utility infrastructure - water pipes, natural gas pipping, sewerlines and removing old steam lines in preparation for new systems.
* Continue to grow the HVAC (heating and cooling) fund (See seperate donation fund)
* Install the insulation in the attic needed for the HVAC system (to follow the installation of the HVAC duct work)
* Continue the renovation, including building an original South Wall, in the Trainmens Room (Began and continuing into 2023)
Our goal is to build out the "Trainmen's Room" into a flexible remote conferencing and training room with the latest techology. This room will be unique in serving the needs of Marysville and the local region for the formal training, education and remote conferencing.
* Install a Catering Kitchen (targeted to finish in 2023)
Mission
The mission of the Marysville Union Pacific Depot Preservation Society is to acquire, preserve, and maintain the historic Union Pacific Depot in Marysville, Kansas, and to develop educational programs that give the public an understanding and appreciation of the historical and national significance of the Union Pacific Railroad and the 1929 depot designed by renowned architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood.
Profile
Even with the lack of heat and air the Historic Depot has been busy serving the local community. We started with serving as the vacination site for the mass vacination for COVID. We have served as the location for Gravel Dash headquarters, served the Gravel Dash cyclists and their families with our famous spaghetti dinner, held educational tours and events for the local students. We had fun events such as the "Dottie Coffee", BrrrrBBQ, and Pictures with the Easter Bunny each Spring as fund raisers just to name some if the events. It is our goal to make each event an "experience" not just an event for the entire community.
We continue to add to our archivial effort and with the ongoing development of the Jake Perez Reading Room and Library. This also included the "Faces of the Railroad display". New displays under development are the "Steam Time" display, county depots and the old timers club.
Thank You for your continued support of the Historic Depot!
